Diagnosing and Resolving Ad Serving Interruptions

How to recognize, troubleshoot, and resolve ad serving interruptions, including causes related to third-party APIs.

Last updated on 18 Nov, 2025

Ad serving interruptions can impact your site's revenue and user experience. This guide helps you identify symptoms, investigate causes, and restore normal ad delivery. If the issue is due to an external service (such as Google Ad Manager), Sulvo will take steps to restore service and credit lost earnings as appropriate.

Common Symptoms

  • Ads are not displaying on one or more pages.

  • Significant drop in ad impressions or earnings reported in Sulvo dashboard.

  • Ad containers show as empty or with error messages.

Causes

Common causes of ad serving interruptions include:

• Third-party API outages (such as Google Ad Manager) temporarily prevent ads from loading. Sulvo monitors these and restores service as soon as possible.

• Incorrect implementation of Sulvo ad tags (e.g., head tag not in header, body tag missing, or tags altered).

• Loading Sulvo tags via unsupported third-party ad servers or wrappers, which can reduce demand or break ad rendering.

• Outdated or missing ads.txt entries, especially after adding new sites.

Solutions

1
Check Sulvo Status Updates
Visit Sulvo’s status page or recent communications to see if there is a known system-wide or third-party outage (such as Google Ad Manager).
2
Verify Ad Tag Placement
Ensure the Sulvo head tag is placed in the page header, as high as possible, and the body tag is inside the ad unit container. Do not modify the tags.
3
Avoid Third-Party Loaders
Make sure you are not loading Sulvo tags via a third-party ad server or wrapper. Direct integration on your site is required for reliable delivery.
4
Confirm ads.txt Entries
Check that your ads.txt file contains all required Sulvo entries. Update it via https://surge.sulvo.com/settings after adding new sites. Changes may take 24+ hours to propagate.
5
Clear Site and Browser Cache
After making changes, clear your site’s cache and test in a private or incognito browser window.
6
Contact Sulvo Support
If the interruption persists and is not due to a known outage, contact Sulvo support with details and diagnostic information.

If the interruption was caused by a third-party outage, Sulvo will restore ad serving as soon as possible.

Verification

After resolving the issue, ads should display normally, and your Sulvo dashboard should show expected impression and earnings levels. Refresh the page and use an incognito window to confirm.

Prevention

  • Integrate Sulvo tags directly into your site; avoid third-party ad servers for tag delivery.

  • Monitor Sulvo status updates and communications for known interruptions.

  • Keep your ads.txt file updated whenever you add or change sites.
